5 Ideas to Liven Up Your Entryway

Bader Obeid • Feb 23, 2015

The entryway is the first space in your home a visitor sees. From new flooring to fun décor, make that first impression even better with one or more of these ideas for an appealing and attractive entryway.

1. Add Seating

This is a practical suggestion especially if you live in cold parts of the country where visitors might want to remove galoshes or overshoes before heading inside your home. Even a very small space can accommodate a stool or two and a bench in a larger entryway can provide additional storage in addition to seating.

2. Put Down a Colorful Rug

Choose a small, durable area rug that can stand up to rain, mud and snow and can be easily swept or shaken clean. A bright spot of color will add an instant pop and be welcome on a gray day.

3. Hang a Mirror

A mirror will reflect light, brightening the space and making it feel bigger, and allow visitors to check their appearance on the way into or out of the house. A nice wooden frame around it contributes dimension, texture, and warmth.

4. Replace Flooring

A hardwearing tile floor can be a good choice in a busy entryway. A small space means minimal costs for the materials and installation, and coordinating with other flooring is a snap since tiles come in so many styles and colors.

5. Bring in Some Greenery

A houseplant always says “Welcome” and adds life to a small and static space. If there is insufficient light for a real plant, an artificial silk tree or potted plant will bring color and texture to the entryway, and can even be decorated for the season.
