3 Shabby Chic DIY Projects for Your Home

Bader Obeid • Jun 26, 2015

Gorgeous shabby chic DIY projects pop up on Pinterest boards all the time, but some of them seem impossible for the average person to do. If you want to add some shabby chic spice to your space, check out the following simple DIY projects presented by CMA Flooring in Carrollton that will add a touch of flair to your home.

Cup and Saucer Sconce

One great shabby chic DIY project for beginners is the teacup and saucer sconce, which requires a teacup, saucer, and a lamp making kit, available at most hardware stores. To assemble your sconce, drill a golf ball size hole in the cup and saucer, insert the lamp socket and wires through the hole, and glue into place. Once the sconce is complete, screw in a light blub, mount the lamp on a living room or bedroom wall, and plug in to enjoy your latest shabby chic addition to your home.

Bookshelf Pantry

If your kitchen does not have a pantry, here is an inexpensive way to make one. Take an old bookcase of any height and paint it with a satin latex paint in a pastel green or mocha. When dry, add a retro gold color curtain rod and a floral curtain to bring a romantic flair to your new pantry. If you’re feeling ambitious, repurpose an old, floral tablecloth by sewing it into curtains. Simply place your bookshelf next to your kitchen cabinets to start storing canned goods.

Ottoman

Ottomans are great for creating extra table surface without taking up too much space. Finding a well-loved ottoman is easy if you browse local thrift shops or garage sales. Once you get your new ottoman home, pull out the staples in the bottom that hold the fabric in place. Pick out your favorite shabby chic pattern and cut the fabric into the correct size and shape to cover your entire ottoman. Simply use a staple gun to secure the fabric, and voila! Place a tray and books on top for a little accent and antique feel.
