How to Decorate Without Destroying Your Walls

Bader Obeid • Aug 14, 2015

Are you the proud owner of a brand new or freshly painted home, but are afraid to put up paintings and photographs for fear of damaging your walls? You’re not alone. At Carpet Milles of America in Carrollton, many of our clients express similar hesitations. To help ensure you are comfortable decorating your home, here are 4 fun and easy ways to deck your walls without damaging them.

1. Use Command Hooks

Command hooks are a home decorator’s best friend. Designed to hold a variety of weights, from 0.5lbs to 7.5lbs, these easy to install (and uninstall) hooks make decorating versatile and fun, without putting paint jobs at risk.

2. Decorate with Oversized Wall Décor Items

Bigger frames, canvases, and found art can be set on waist-high console tables and leaned against the wall at a slight angle. If the item is large enough (6 feet or taller) simply set the item on the floor and lean it against the wall. This way, you can decorate your living room or bedroom walls without needing to create holes or accidently peeling paint.

3. Vinyl Wall Decals

Vinyl wall decals, which work like stickers, come in an enormous variety of shapes, colors, sizes, patterns, and styles. As these stickers are designed for easy removal, you can place these throughout your home without worrying about damaging the walls. Plus, many of these decals are reusable, so if you decide you dislike your decals’ placement, you can move them around without an issue.

4. Use shelves

Many tall shelves and bookcases offer a way to decorate your space without needing to drill holes in the wall. As shelves can hold a variety of home décor items, including books, vases, flowers, CDs, picture frames, and more, they offer an easy way to spice up your home. And, if you like to be able to switch things up, you can simply swap items out seasonally.
