How to Remove Tough Carpet Stains
Though carpet is relatively easy to take care of, there is always the possibility something can spill and stain it. Luckily, there are effective ways to prevent these stains from being permanent marks on your lovely floors. Coffee
Blot the coffee with a dry white towel, but do not wipe because it may spread the stain. Pour a mixture witha quarter cup of white vinegar and a tablespoon of dish soap into a spray bottle and fill the rest with water. Spray an ample amount of this mixture onto the coffee stain, allow it to soak for 5-10 minutes, andthen blot dry with a new white towel.
Pet Waste
Manually remove any excess solid waste with gloves and blot dry any urine until your carpet flooring is almost dry to the touch. If the waste has already dried, dampen it with a carpet-cleaning product specifically designed for pet waste. Next, use the same white vinegar mixture for coffee stains to eliminate both the odor and stain. A mixture of water and laundry detergent that fights stains can also effectively remove marks caused by pet waste.
Wine
Blend two parts hydrogen peroxide and one part dishwashing soap and apply it to a concealed area of the carpet to monitor any potential damage. If no bleaching effect occurs, place the mixture on the wine spill and dab with a sponge until it dries. If the hydrogen peroxide mixture is too harsh for the carpet, try pouring club soda over the spill and dabbing it dry. Then mix a quarter cup of dishwashing soap with four cups of lukewarm water and apply it to the rest of the stain. If any staining remains, use the white vinegar method for coffee and pet stains.
Blood
To prevent the stain from setting, never use hot or warm water when treating blood stains. Instead, mix two tablespoons of dish detergent with cold water and liberally spray this onto the stain. Blot the spot dry with a white cloth or paper towel and repeat these steps if necessary.
