5 Unique Tips for Redoing a Ceiling
Often forgotten, the ceiling in a room is a blank canvas waiting for interesting architectural or design elements to make a space truly unique. Here are 5 ways to update the ceilings in your home you can easily do yourself, brought to you by the design experts at Carpet Mills of America in Carrollton.
1. Paint Stripes
Perhaps the simplest way to update a ceiling is to paint it one color. However, you can get more creative and do it in stripes instead. All you need to do this is your favorite paint color, a brush, and some painter’s tape. Measure and mark your ceiling in pencil, lay the tape, and paint away. A level can help you make sure your lines are straight.
2. Use a Stencil
A step up from regular painting, stenciling adds an interesting pattern to your ceiling without putting up wallpaper or other new elements. Pick up an interesting stencil when you purchase your paint or create your own design and start painting the ceiling from the edges inward.
3. Install Tin Tiles
Tin ceiling tiles are a great way to update a ceiling. They are available at most hardware stores and are easy to install, and there are also tin ceiling tiles that can fit neatly into dropped ceilings, updating your room with ease.
4. Put Up Wallpaper
Pick fun wallpaper that matches your décor and add it to the ceiling, and use prepasted or removable wallpaper for easiest installation. If you want an even simpler, yet still creative idea, use contact paper cut into shapes like circles or stars and place them in a pattern.
5. Add Beams
Adding box beams to your ceiling is fairly simple, and they can be used to hide wires or ductwork. Create a 3-sided box with lumber, sand, and stain, and mount it securely to the ceiling. This works particularly well on flat or sloped ceilings.
